The story of Severed Wings revolves on Josaphat's Ink, an angel's diary. Below are its basic tenets:
I. Two Kinds of Angels
1. Angels of the Kingdom: do not live on Earth, do not have perishable bodies, exact in numbers.
2. Missionary angels: people who died and were reborn on Earth, commissioned by the Creator to guard humans. They have bodies like mortals, have limited powers, and their life spans are only as long as that of ordinary humans.
II. War of Angels
1. There will be an onset of rebel angels brought by the strife on Earth
2. The rebel angels would like to proclaim the angels’ supremacy on Earth and put the Earth in order.
3. The abiding angels would not allow this and there will be a faction between angels and would escalate into a war.
4. The war will happen at the time when an angel (missionary angel) fell in love with a human. That human is the Hope.
III. The Hope
1. That human, is the Hope. Hope is the word used by Josaphat. It could mean the hope for the Earth, the humans, or the angels.
2. The Hope was also referred to as the key to angels’ unity.
3. It is the Hope’s choice who she will side with: the rebel angels or the abiding angels. It is her choice and although no one can force her, it is up for grabs between the rebel angels and the abiding angels.
The Hope is doomed to be hunted, especially by the rebel angels.
